Here’s a classic, UNCENSORED live set from Live at Southbound Tracks, featuring soundtracks, a huge hip-hop block, a scintillating 70s block with some pop, rock and funk hits of the era, and tons more.  Eclectic, like you love it. Mixed live in Traktor and streamed to Twitch February 6th, 2021.

This is the third Live at Southbound Tracks, still referred to as Live “from” Southbound Tracks. I thought the “at” made it sound like a live album from my dad’s collection, so I changed it later.

I’m extra squatty this week. Eventually, the show will be hosted by a bald fire hydrant, one of those grey ones, to match the aesthetic.

Same setup as before, which didn’t change much from this point. Everything goes through the Traktor Kontrol, which feeds into a small Behringer mixer and into OBS. The SP-404SX sampler does the movie samples, and goes into an additional analog channel. Canva visuals through Magic Music Visuals, into OBS. Two laptops, one for audio, the other video and streaming. Some flashing images.

The seventies was the last period of recorded music before digital production took over. It’s the peak of analog. It’s the best these genres had sounded up to this point. For some sets of ears, the move to more automated instruments, like drum machines and synths, signaled the end of music. They were incorrect, of course. Even a lot of that analog warmth found its way into later recordings, often by younger bands looking to emulate their heroes.

None of this stuff ever really goes away. It all comes back around in some form. Frankly, that’s what musicians (and DJs) are for.
