UNREAL 6-HOUR DJ SET! OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP, FUNK, METAL COVERS, bad celebrity impressions

Here’s a classic, UNCENSORED live set from Live At Southbound Tracks. Mixed live in Traktor and streamed to Twitch March 13, 2021.

00:00 – We now return to Manos: The Hands of Fate, already in progress.

55:09 – Cacti shirt. Pretty tough for 2021.

1:05:31 – The Nic Cage impression.

1:33:35 – Mixtape-style transition. Geto Boys by request.

1:54:06 – That is some bad dancing. No one in the 90s actually danced like that. I apologize to the 90s. By the way, if you’re afraid to be caught dancing in public, your enemies have already won.

2:54:39 – Some funk and disco for a little while. I’ve probably said before that my first dance music was freestyle, but that was inaccurate. Not counting the 50’s and 60’s rock n’ roll coming out of old restaurant jukeboxes, the first club dance music I was aware of was disco. The stuff was everywhere back then, even while everyone hated on it to look tough. Funk, disco’s not-so-distant cousin, was equally ubiquitous. Both fall in and out of fashion, but are never truly gone.

2:58:33 – The failed Nicholson bit.

3:20:12 – This nerd and his James Brown. No one compares. He was a genius. Eric loved him. I still do.

3:28:42 – I wouldn’t do this bit over The Meters today, but I do like a good Toxic Avenger sample. The bit goes on for a little long, but I was still learning the SP-404 SX at the time. It’s phenomenal for building textures in the studio. Gritty. I don’t have the newer one.

3:46:10 – “Daddy Cool.” I first heard this one on ‪@WILIscredia‬ , years ago. First thing I thought was, “What a cool, cinematic disco tune.” Then, “That’s where Kevin Nash got his nickname.”

4:06:56 – 80’s dance club hits. The electronic sound was taking over, and also never truly left.

4:13:29 – Early Madonna is still great. Her club tunes like “Burnin’ Up” are more chameleon-like than her later, more ambitious stuff. You can surprise a dance floor with this one. Some might not know the melody, but they know the voice.

4:18:57 – Long transition into some freestyle. #freestyleforever

4:37:20 – Debbie Deb!

4:40:48 – Slowing it waaaaaay down.

4:55:30 – Here comes the #thrashmetal  with my favorite band of all time, Anthrax. You’ll get a few other subgenres as well here. The theme is #metalcover songs, so you’ll get W.A.S.P. doing the Stones, Van Halen doing Roy Orbison, and so on. A bit more classic rock to follow it up.

I love to play this stuff, San Antonio. I live and breathe for it, and I want to play it for you. Get your #sanantoniodj now!
